What It Is: DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone manufactured in the human adrenal gland.
Useful For: Many reports have been made pertaining to low levels of DHEA in diabetes, coronary artery disease, various cancers, obesity, lupus erythematosus, hypertension, AIDS, viral infections, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Several human studies have shown DHEA to moderately reduce fat and increase muscle mass. Studies also show lower glucose levels with DHEA supplementation, and thus potentially a lower risk of diabetes. Insulin sensitivity was benefited by DHEA supplementation. Low DHEA occurs with high glucose and poor insulin activity. Supplementation may reverse this.*
