Bioflavonoid Complex

What It Is: A group of more than 4,000 naturally occurring phenolic compounds, found mainly in fruits and vegetables. In food, bioflavonoids keep vitamin C from oxidizing. They do the same in the human body. 

Useful For: Rebuilding connective tissue, overcoming oxidative stress.*

How It Works: Bioflavonoids restore electrons to antioxidants. Almost everything in the body requires electrons, so if there’s something that conserves them it’s a good thing. Through this process, bioflavonoids keep vitamin C from being oxidized by helping to maintain vitamin C in its reduced state. Vitamin C needs to be kept in the reduced state in order to guarantee completion of hydroxylation, which is necessary for a successful detoxification program.

What To Look For: A bioflavonoid supplement should have at least 500 mg. bioflavonoid from a citrus source. Other sources are fine, as long as this minimum is met. This product has 525 mg: 375 from citrus bioflavonoid, and 150 mg from rutin, also a citrus flavonoid.)

Bioflavonoids sold combined with vitamin C usually only have a trace of bioflavonoid, and are not good choices. It’s best to buy bioflavonoid and vitamin C separately.
