Iron – a very necessary dietary mineral – also has a down side. In an uncontrolled setting, it’s a highly toxic heavy metal. Iron plays a role in virtually every toxicity, infection, cancer, and disease condition. The balance is found somewhere between the total body burden, how efficiently the body binds iron, and to what extent the body’s underlying chemistry supports or hinders its design to control iron for our benefit. Whether it works for or against us depends upon our success at supporting the body’s design for the procurement and handling of iron.
